Detached, Adrift and at Peace Series | 2016

It begins with the color blue. It serves as the threshold to my journey. Blue is multi-dimensional. I can dive into it. It can be cool and warm in its temperature and serves as a portal to another world. I respond to its saturation by dissolving into the space it creates. At times I felt lost, adrift in the expanse of the paint, in the process. Having entered a dissociative, meditative state of mind, I absolved myself from any predictable outcome and chose to work in the blue.

Surrendering the expectation of having a destination allowed me to remain present with the paint. Experimenting with the push and pull of paint coaxed light from the foundation. Through subtraction, I not only unveiled different geometric shapes, but also revealed lighter values and new colors.

Through structure, I composed scaffolding that obliged me to work within the negative space. The addition of lines aided in my exploration of the planes, shifting my focus on the relationship betwixt. When all of the elements came together, each line informed the next moment, each moment unveiled the next color. I finally dove wholeheartedly into the process, into the paint, and into the blue.
